| One day while rowing on a weir, Wolfgang Kerber's kayak capsizes. When he is rescued his body temperature has fallen to 24°C – by all common standards he is dead. Three months later, however, he is back at his job. He is also mountain climbing and rowing kayaks. Is this mere luck or fate? Kerber does not know. In his book he relates his near-death experience, his gradual return to life and also gives thanks for his second chance. Kerber's scientifically trained mind not only gives us a precise description of his condition, but also provides an insight into the tremendous achievements of modern medicine and includes explanations about the phenomena of near-death and the psychology of those involved. About the author: Dr Wolfgang Kerber was born in 1942 in Vienna. He studied mathematics and science (physics). He was an assistant professor at the Institute of Science at the University of Vienna. He is head of the physics department of the Austrian Central Library. He lives with his family in Vienna. |
