A watchman in a declining trading city, in a country torn apart by religious wars and peasant revolts in the early 17-th century, discovers the miracle of snowflakes. Each and every snowflake has six points and no two are alike – each is unique. What is the true secret behind all of this beauty? Is it the alphabet of the universe? Are they a sign from heaven? He embarks on a year-long search to find the perfect snowflake. A pursuit full of loneliness, despair and disappointment. And one also full with the desperate desire for a woman who is out of reach but ever so loved.

Fritz Lehner was born in Austria in 1948. He is a graduate of the Vienna Film and Television Academy and is a script-writer and director. He is a member of the German Academy for the Performing Arts and of the Berlin College of Art. Some of Lehner's films include: „Schöne Tag“ (Beautiful Day), script and direction; „Mit meinen heißen Tränen“ (With My Burning Tears), script and direction; „Jedermanns Fest“ (Jedermann's Feast), script and direction. He is the recipient of numerous awards. His novel „Я“ was published by Seifert Verlag in 2003 followed by the first book in the „Hotel-Metropol“ trilogy entitled, „Hotel Metropol: Ankunft“ (The Arrival) in 2005, followed by the second in the series, „Hotel Metropol: Tage und Nächte“ (Days and Nights) in Autumn 2005, and the last in the trilogy, „Hotel Metropol: Abreise“ (The Departure) in 2006.
