| Since his campaign scheme along the Adriatic Sea where for a length of one kilometre he painted all of the shingle blue, red and white in order to test „the reaction of all those neurotics“, Padhi has remained a revolutionary. Like those great lonesome figures of the past, Vincent van Gogh, Friedrich Nietzsche, Boris Vian, he has always answered to no one but himself. In the 1950's, twenty years before it became an art form, he produced staged-photography. He dispatched „MAIL ART“ long before art critics had even heard of it. In his aphorisms he pokes fun at all the philistine, money-making, 'in-people', and radicalises his critique of society in a manner not easily found elsewhere. About the author: Padhi Frieberger was born in 1931. „He was around from the very start.“ He is/was a friend of Ernst Fuchs, Hundertwasser, Ossi Wiener, Konrad Bayer and Bruno Gironcoli. Some people claim he was the very heart of the post-war scene, the most sensitive, the most intelligent of all those artists. However, his photos and poems are not to be found in any of the anthologies. „More horrible than a world in flames is a frozen world“, Padhi inscribed under his self-portrait. He lives in Vienna. |
