| „In recent years in Croatia and Bosnia, books have been published about political refugees persecuted by the infamous Yugoslavian Secret Service, 'UDB'. All of these books also mention my name.“ Mijo Juric explains the reason for this in his book. In colourful language he describes his childhood in a Bosnian village and of how at the age of 17 he ran into problems with the secret service. He tells of his years at the idyllic Dominican monastery, Bol, on the island of Brac, about his sympathies for the Croatian student's movement, his imprisonment, and his daring escape to Austria where he hoped to live in freedom and safety. The ideals of the Croatian student's movement however find little interest in the West and the secret service is still pursuing him to this very day. About the author: Mijo Juric was born near Tuzla, Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1953. He was the eldest of seven children in a strict Catholic family. He joined the Dominican seminary, Bol, on the island of Brac, then later attended high school in Tuzla where he saw himself forced to leave due to political reasons. He moved to Zagreb, worked as a graphics designer and then moved to Vienna in 1973. From 1974 to 1977 he attended the Vienna School of Art with portraiture as his main field. He is married and is the father of two daughters. |
